Hyderabad Sanctions ₹749 Crore for Road Infrastructure Upgrade

Hyderabad is on the verge of a major urban transformation. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has sanctioned infrastructure projects worth over ₹749 crore, aimed at enhancing road connectivity, reducing congestion, and strengthening the city’s civic systems.

High-Impact Corridor to Boost Gachibowli and Cyberabad Access

One of the key highlights of the approved projects is the development of a high-impact road corridor linking Khajaguda Junction, IIT Junction, and Cyberabad Police Headquarters to Gachibowli. This strategic route will ease traffic flow in one of Hyderabad’s busiest tech and business districts, addressing long-standing connectivity bottlenecks.

The centerpiece is a 215-foot-wide arterial road between Khajaguda and Gachibowli, which includes:

  • Multi-level flyovers
  • Grade separators
  • A 150-lane connector from Anjaiah Nagar to Ranki Tower Road

This massive project is expected to handle current traffic and anticipated growth from rapid urban expansion in Hyderabad’s western corridor.

Sustainable and Future-Ready Urban Planning

The GHMC is integrating sustainable design principles into these projects by including:

  • Pedestrian-friendly elements
  • Last-mile connectivity improvements
  • Landscaping for carbon-neutral development

Officials emphasize that the upgraded road network will support modal shifts to public transport and reduce vehicular emissions.

Civic Infrastructure Upgrades to Support Basic Amenities

Apart from mobility upgrades, GHMC has cleared several smaller but crucial projects:

  • ₹2.12 crore for shifting the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Phase-2 pipeline at Bandlaguda Cross Road to prevent service disruptions during roadwork.
  • Construction of a box drain from Yerragunta to Bandlaguda Housing Colony to manage monsoon flooding and improve hygiene.

New Roads and Redevelopment Projects Across Hyderabad

  • ₹5.10 crore allocated for a new 40-foot-wide road connecting Nagabowli Junction to Dabeerpura Police Station in East Hyderabad.
  • ₹2.95 crore sanctioned for concrete roads and RCC box drains in Bouddha Nagar near a local school, enhancing pedestrian safety and flood protection.

GHMC Partners for Animal Welfare and Green Spaces

In a progressive move, GHMC approved a 25-year lease of 4,350 square yards in Gopanpally village to an animal welfare organization for setting up a modern animal care center.

Additionally, a MoU was signed with a healthcare institution to maintain:

  • Jubilee Hills Check Post Park
  • Bamboo Park on Road No. 36

Together, these parks cover over 9,000 square metres and will be maintained for the next three years, boosting Hyderabad’s green footprint.

Land Acquisition for Future Transport Corridors

To pave the way for future transport projects, GHMC approved land acquisition across several zones:

  • 43 properties for an 18-meter-wide road from Topkhana Masjid to Osmangunj
  • 19 properties for the Goshamahal-Osmangunj link
  • 112 properties for widening roads between Police Land to Darusalam and Malakunta to Old Topu Khana
  • 95 properties for upgrading the Ghode Ki Khabar–Begum Bazaar stretch

These expansions will decongest historic commercial areas and enable high-capacity traffic flow in core city zones.

A Step Towards a Resilient, Green, and Inclusive Hyderabad

Urban planners and sustainability advocates have praised the projects for aligning with eco-friendly, inclusive growth. However, they urge GHMC to ensure community-inclusive land acquisition, minimizing displacement and promoting equitable urban development.

With Hyderabad’s population and economic footprint projected to grow substantially, this ₹749 crore investment signifies a major leap toward a smarter, cleaner, and more connected city.
